How to brighten up your room with a rug
Living in a rented house sucks. Especially when all you want to do is knock down a wall, slap a bare brick wallpaper on another one and rip out the whole bathroom. Oh wells. One day I will! But until then I have to live with what I've got (read: poo brown carpets, textured wallpapers from 1980s and big magnolia stained radiators). Luckily there are many many ways you can add a little something to your space even if it's not completely yours. A 'you' cushion here and there, a marble lamp with coper detailing, a bright coloured cabinet for your treasures. Or a rug.

🌿 We got a new rug for our living room!

And a kitten to go with it! Not really - Pippin's been around for a while as you know, but the rug is brand new! I'll let you on a little secret today - I used to be scared of rugs. Not like scared scared that they gonna bite me. But scared as in I'll get bored of them, they won't fit, they will slip & slide around the room, they will look clunky and clutter the room. But the truth is they do the exact opposite - they pull the room together, they give it a more of a unified feel and they can completely overhaul the style of it. We got this black & white diamond rug from Carpetright on the weekend (it's this one) and it might just be the best addition to our little living room so far. I know, I know, the sofa is ripped to shreds (thanks Cookie!) and we are not officially allowed to sit on it (you know when you try but your cat gives you the dirtiest look so you immediately slide off the sofa on the floor, perhaps glance up whether you can at least lean on it from the floor - yeah that's exactly the situation here). But sometimes when the cats are asleep upstairs we sneak in, pour a glass of Baileys and read a book or listen to a vinyl from our vinyl gallery wall. And this rug is the perfect little feet warmer and I really do think it gives the room a much more put together feel.

🌿 Why to choose a rug to spice up your room?

💬 Rugs are easy to replace - much easier than a carpet or wooden flooring!
💬 They come in all sorts of patterns, materials, textures and styles
💬 You can layer them - to add an extra cosy feel
💬 They make your feet toasty
💬 You can switch them around the house
💬 Rugs allow you to visually separate different parts of the room - your bar cart corner, your kids' play area, your yoga den
💬 They are usually much cheaper than a full on carpet
💬 Different patterns can give the room a wanderlust feel - think along the lines of Persian and Moroccan rugs
💬 If your cat (or dog) rips them to shreds you don't have to get a carpet fitter in, you just chuck it in the bin & get a new one
💬 You can play with different colours and patterns to creative different moods
💬 They unify the room and pull it together
💬 Certain patterns and colours can optically enlarge a smaller room or cosy up a large hall
