Best scary books for Halloween
Autumn is the best time to snuggle up with a good book, a cuppa & a pair of wooly socks (especially useful when you're saving up on heating). The days are shorter, the nights are darker - what better time to read a dark spooky book which will give you cold shivers & goosebumps? Here's my 7 favourite books for this autumn (and they all have one in common: they're eerie AF!).

👻 The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes (£7.99, Amazon - buy here)
A thriller where the plot evolves around a serial killer who also happens to be a time traveller - it sounds like a tragically weak storyline but man trust me - it is SO good! I have done a full review of this book here (spoiler alert!).

👻 Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs (£6.29, Amazon - buy here)
Can we just make this clear now please - I've known (& loved) this book literally since ever - waaay before it became ridiculously famous! My proof lies in this old school 2012 review of mine (read it here).

👻 The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (£5.59, Amazon - buy here)
If you're into magic, intricate intertwining storylines & circus acrobats then this one's for you. It's not exactly spooky - but it's definitely tense & mind boggling!

👻 Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka (£2, Amazon - buy here)
In line with my travel journal from Prague (catch up here), Metamorphosis must be the most messed up book I've ever read. I read it both in Czech and German when I was younger and it spooked me out big time. It will make you question everything from what you've had for breakfast to whether you're a human.

👻 Bouquet by Karel Jaromir Erben (£14.50, Amazon - buy here)
One of my most favourite Czech books ever written (you can read more about it here). Just holding the book in my hand gives me cold shivers. This collection of Czech folk tales will make you wonder about Czech people & their sanity.

👻 Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (£1.99, Amazon - buy here)
One of the most beautiful and heart-breaking romances I've ever read. Set in the Yorkshire moors you can actually feel the freezing wind and soul drenching rains. If you don't cry at the end, who are you even?!

👻 Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin (£7.99, Amazon - buy here)
If possessed children is a touch too much for you then steer away from this classic. It is absolutely perfect for a good ol' Halloween read but it will haunt you at least until the Christmas day.
