The Stable, Birmingham review
My favourite restaurants and eateries - as you can probably tell already by the ones I write about the most - are the ones that stand out from the crowd. The ones that have authentic decor, the ones that have created an outstanding menu, the ones that go that extra mile for their customers. Birmingham has many (oh SO many) places to grab a bite at - not that many of them are very unique though. One that never disappoints is The Stable on John Bright Street, just outside of New Street Station.

If you're looking for a restaurant where you can enjoy pizzas, pies & cider sat on a cosy rustic bench with a yellow glow of an Edison light bulb above your head then The Stable is perfect for you.

🍕FOOD MENU
The main focus of The Stable is using local produce where possible and creating real British pizzas with unexpected toppings & pies that will stuff your belly to the brim. When I popped in with Terri (from Hello Terri Lowe - see her blog here) we had The Big Jerk pizza which has marinated jerk-chicken, Denhay Farm dry-cured bacon, roasted red peppers, red onion, tomato sauce and mozzarella on top. Absolutely delicious if you ask me - it's one of those pizzas where the dough base is quite low (perhaps because it's a sourdough one) and it's proper loaded with toppings. A little like my quick & easy pizza but a million times better. I've also had The Billy the Kid pizza there before which has Rosary goats’ cheese, caramelised onions, eld mushrooms, spinach, tomato sauce and mozzarella on top and is sprinkled with roasted hazelnuts. But because our stomachs aren't exactly bottomless we settled for one pizza and a Cured Meats & Cheese Sharer. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to cheeseboards - Shaun is somewhat of a professional at assembling the tastiest combinations, but I was well pleased with the selection on my plate. It had an air-dried pork loin and coppa from Capreolus of Dorset with a selection of three West Country cheeses: Wookey Hole aged cheddar, Rosary goats’ cheese and Dorset Blue Vinney. It also came with pickled cucumber, tomato chutney and Peter’s Yard sourdough crackers.

🍺 CIDER TASTING
The Stable has also started doing Cider Tasting Boards where you can try a selection of their craft ciders. There ain't no Strongbow there - all their ciders are produced in small amounts from local cider mills and farmers. For mere £7.50 we got to try Hogans Draught, Hogans Elderflower, Robinsons Flagon, Gwatkins No Bull and Lilley's Beesting Perry. All of them were completely different, each with a unique twang to it. My favourite was definitely Hogans Elderflower as it tasted just like the non-alcoholic cider I used to drink as a kid in Czech Republic.

Overall I'm a huge fan of The Stable - the restaurant is ever so pleasant to sit in and the food is delicious. Everything is very reasonably priced (I'd say it's on the more affordable spectrum of what you expect in Birmingham city centre) and you can even get your pizza for £7.50 during lunch time! You can find their full menu right here.
