Feline Foodology: Chicken with prawns by ShinyCat
Last week we've kicked off the Feline Foodology series - a series of posts where our little fluffy butts Cookie & Pipps taste & trial various cat foods in quest for the most delicious, most nutritious and most natural cat food out there. To learn more about the series read the first post in the Feline Foodology series and to discover which cat foods are in the spotlight today keep on scrolling.

🍤 Gimpet ShinyCat Chicken with Prawns

ShinyCat is yet another discovery from my recent trip to Prague - pretty much everything in the PetCentre stores was either made or endorsed by the company called Gimpet (I assume this is a brand under the PetCentre pet food maker umbrella, sometimes you can also find it as Gimcat). These tins are ever so small (70g each) however they are packed with proper cat food. They smell delicious and even look appealing (as compared to Felix pouches - sorry not sorry). You could pick out the chicken and the prawns and you wouldn't hesitate to eat it all after a long day at work (I promise you I haven't tried but have been very tempted!). There is a little bit of salt (potassium chloride) added to the food however that is just to preserve the ingredients. These tins also contain very little fat which is incredibly important for indoor cats like Cookie & Pippi. Overall a fancy little snack for the kitties, both Cookie & Pipps have been rather impressed with this brand so far (read their review of HuHuBamboo cat treats - they are from the same parent company).

Ingredients: Chicken 38.6%, prawns 4.5%, potassium chloride
Analytical components: Protein 12%, moisture content 86.5%, fat 0.5%, fiber 1%, crude ash 1%
Price: About £1.50 for 2 tins

We have also tried their Chicken with Papaya and Tuna with Catnip. Delicious! (Cookie & Pipps said that, not me okay).

Gimpet ShinyCat is currently available in Czech pet stores called PetCentre or you can find some of their products on Amazon - click here or on ZooPlus - click here. Of course we haven't tried any other range apart from the ShinyCat so don't hold us responsible if the rest of the range is not that nice! Just saying.

To learn more about proper cat food you can grab a copy of Jenny's book Cats off the Carbs here - it's a great little guide if you're looking to start feeding your cat a proper food! And just to reiterate (and give you an example of what kind of information you can find in the book) - a good cat food is
High in animal protein
Moderate in fat
Low in carbohydrates
What are you feeding your cats at the moment?
Have you ever tried reading the labels & deciphering what they mean?

💭 Totally not sponsored - Jenny was kind enough to share her book Cats off the Carbs with me (thank you!) however all the picky feline habits, beany toesies and stinky toots after eating too much prawn treats are our very own.

💭 I don't claim to be an expert in cat food - all my knowledge is gathered from Jenny's book, the internets and my own personal experience, however I'm genuinely hoping this series will help others understand the importance of proper cat food.
